Can I downgrade my participation level and stay a member?

Yes. You can downgrade your participation level and remain an Honor Society® member.

Downgrading a participation level does not cancel your membership. Honor Society® membership is free and continues regardless of participation level.

Definition

Membership and participation levels are separate.
Participation levels add optional benefits for a billing period, but they do not create membership and do not determine whether membership remains active.

What happens when I downgrade my participation level?

If you downgrade your participation level:

  • Your current paid benefits remain active through the end of the billing period

  • Your account moves to the selected lower participation level, or to free Basic if no paid level remains

  • Your Honor Society® membership continues uninterrupted

Downgrading a participation level does not cancel membership.

Do I remain a member if I downgrade to free Basic?

Yes.

If you downgrade to free Basic:

  • You remain a full Honor Society® member

  • Your membership does not expire

  • You continue to receive communications and opportunities available to free Basic members

Does downgrading affect scholarship access?

No.

As long as your membership is active:

  • You continue to have full access to the Honor Society scholarships platform and available opportunities

  • Participation levels do not affect scholarship access

Scholarship eligibility and selection are based on each scholarship’s criteria, not on participation level.

Can I change my participation level again later?

Yes.

Members may upgrade, downgrade, or change participation levels at any time. Many members adjust participation levels later as their goals or needs change.

Changing participation levels later is normal and expected.

Does downgrading affect how long my membership lasts?

No.

Downgrading:

  • Does not shorten membership duration

  • Does not cause membership to expire

  • Does not reduce membership status

Membership remains active unless you choose to close your account or it is closed for policy-related reasons.

Why does Honor Society allow members to downgrade participation levels?

Honor Society is designed to be flexible and inclusive.

This allows members to:

  • Participate at the level that fits their current needs

  • Change participation levels without losing membership

  • Maintain long-term access to recognition, scholarships, and opportunities
