What happens if I never choose a participation level?

Nothing changes. You remain an Honor Society® member.

If you never choose a participation level, you continue as a free Basic member. Participation levels are optional and are not required to join or remain an Honor Society® member.

Definition

Participation levels are optional.
Honor Society membership exists independently of participation levels. Choosing not to select a participation level does not affect membership status.

What does it mean to stay a free Basic member?

If you never choose a participation level:

  • You remain a full Honor Society® member

  • Your free Basic membership stays active

  • Your membership does not expire

  • You continue to receive communications and opportunities available to free Basic members

Many members choose to remain free Basic members indefinitely.

Does not choosing a participation level affect my membership?

No.

Not choosing a participation level:

  • Does not cancel membership

  • Does not reduce membership status

  • Does not cause membership to expire

Free Basic members are full Honor Society® members.

Can I choose a participation level later?

Yes.

Members may choose a participation level at any time. Many members choose to do so later, often when reaching milestones such as applying for scholarships, preparing for graduation, or updating resumes or professional profiles.

Choosing a participation level later is normal and expected.

What happens if I choose a participation level and then cancel it?

If you choose a participation level and later cancel or downgrade:

  • Paid benefits remain active through the end of the billing period

  • Your account returns to free Basic membership

  • Your Honor Society membership continues uninterrupted

Canceling a participation level does not cancel membership.

Why does Honor Society allow members to remain without choosing a participation level?

Honor Society is designed to be inclusive and flexible.

Allowing members to remain at the free Basic level ensures:

  • No financial pressure to belong

  • Long-term access to recognition

  • The freedom to decide later whether optional participation levels are useful
