Honor societies bring people together around academics, leadership, service or professional interests. Each organization sets its own membership requirements, recognition standards, benefits and fees.
Honor Society® at HonorSociety.org is a national membership organization offering recognition, scholarship opportunities, career resources and member benefits. Membership is free, with Honor Society Plus plans available for additional benefits.
This guide explains the general landscape and how membership works specifically at HonorSociety.org.
How do honor societies select members?
Requirements vary by organization. Some use GPA thresholds, class rank, faculty nominations or a particular field of study. Others welcome a broader community interested in learning, leadership and professional growth.
Some organizations operate through school chapters; others provide membership and resources online. An invitation’s meaning depends on the organization sending it, so review its published requirements.
How does Honor Society® membership work?
Honor Society welcomes students and professionals who want to build on their achievements and pursue their goals.
Three distinct parts of the membership experience are:
- Membership: Joining the Honor Society community and accessing the resources available with your plan. There is no minimum GPA required to join.
- Academic recognition: Recognition titles based on published GPA criteria.
- Scholarships and programs: Opportunities with their own eligibility requirements, application processes and deadlines.
Your membership plan does not determine your academic recognition tier. See the membership requirements and recognition standards for details.
Is Honor Society free, and what does Plus include?
Free membership includes a member profile, access to scholarship applications and educational and career-related content.
Honor Society Plus adds benefits through paid plans. Depending on the plan, these may include Vault career guides, professional learning resources, member discounts and recognition items.
Review the membership comparison for included benefits and the selected plan’s price and billing frequency. Paid plans renew automatically unless canceled. The cancellation and refund policy explains how to manage renewal.
What can members use Honor Society for?

Sharing achievements and pursuing interests
Use a member profile to share your background and goals. Explore recognition products, educational resources and benefits relevant to your next milestone.
The member benefits directory explains available resources and access requirements.
How should I evaluate an honor society?
Look for clear answers to four questions:
- Who operates it, and how can I contact them?
- What does membership or an invitation mean?
- Which resources would I use, and what do they cost?
- What requirements apply to recognition, scholarships and other programs?
Consider practical uses: applying for a relevant scholarship, researching an employer or taking a course. Scholarships are competitive, and membership does not guarantee an award, admission or employment.
