Is Honor Society membership free?

Yes. Honor Society® offers a free Basic membership.

Anyone who joins Honor Society becomes a Basic (free) member, and no payment is required to be a member. Basic membership does not expire and does not require an upgrade.

Definition

Honor Society membership is free.
Paid participation levels are optional enhancements that add tools, services, or benefits. They are not required to join Honor Society or to remain a member.

Membership and paid participation levels are separate.

What does free (Basic) membership include?

Basic (free) membership includes:

  • Recognition as an Honor Society® member

  • Access to Honor Society communications and opportunities

  • Eligibility to apply for programs and scholarships when available

  • Ongoing membership with no payment required

  • The option to upgrade later — or never upgrade at all

You remain a member whether or not you choose a paid participation level.

Are paid options required to be a member?

No.

Honor Society offers optional paid participation levels, beginning with Bronze, for members who want additional tools, services, or benefits.

Paid participation levels:

  • Do not create membership

  • Do not replace free membership

  • Are not required to apply for membership

  • Can be added, changed, or canceled at any time

Membership exists independently of paid participation.

What happens if I never upgrade?

Nothing changes.

You remain a full Honor Society® member and continue to receive communications and opportunities available to Basic members. There is no obligation to upgrade and no deadline to decide.

Many members choose to remain Basic members indefinitely.

Can I upgrade later?

Yes.

Many members choose to upgrade later, often when reaching milestones such as applying for scholarships, preparing for graduation, or updating resumes or professional profiles.

Upgrading later is normal and expected.

If I cancel a paid participation level, do I lose my membership?

No.

If you cancel or downgrade a paid participation level:

  • Your paid benefits end at the end of the billing period

  • Your free Honor Society membership remains active

Membership and paid participation levels are separate.

Why does Honor Society offer free membership?

Honor Society is designed to be inclusive and accessible.

Offering free membership allows individuals to:

  • Join without financial pressure

  • Explore opportunities at their own pace

  • Decide later whether optional participation levels are right for them

This approach gives members flexibility and choice.
