Traditionally, when students first receive their class ring, they wear it with the school name facing inward—symbolizing that graduation is still ahead. After that, different schools and communities have their own fun customs.
One common tradition is to have friends or classmates “turn” the ring for good luck. Some groups follow a guideline of having 15 people give the ring a turn in the same direction, with the final (15th) turn done by someone meaningful to the graduate—often turning it the opposite way as a symbolic gesture of closing out the journey.
It’s important to remember that these traditions vary widely by school and region. There’s no required number of turns, and you can follow whichever tradition feels meaningful to you.
